■JAMMA's Singapore Amusement Machine Show Ends in Success!

Exhibitions by 24 Companies in the Amusement-related Field

Following the 1996 show in Hong Kong, the Japan Amusement Machinery Manufacturers Association (JAMMA) held its second overseas show, Asia Amusement Machine Show '97, for three days, from November 14 to November 16 in Singapore, in Exhibition Hall 404 on the fourth floor of the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Center.
The show aimed to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the AM industry in Japan and the countries of Southeast Asia, establish an ordered business organization (market formation), and foster international exchange through technical and industrial cooperation.
The previous show was jointly hosted with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), but this time, the Singapore show was hosted by JAMMA only.
The show featured 24 companies in the amusement and related industries, including non-JAMMA members, in 176 booths.
There were four companies fewer than the previous show.
Some companies canceled participation because the operation of medal games is not approved in Singapore and this is believed to be one reason for the decline in member participation.
However, two local companies participated in the show and this also contributed to mutual understanding and cooperation with regional community.

■Attendance Up Sharply over Previous Show

The Executive Committee for the show carried out advance advertising and publicity in the local mass media and distributed a total of 40,000 fliers with invitations.
As a result, the Singapore show was visited by nearly twice as many general visitors as the Hong Kong show and succeeded in introducing the enjoyment of AM machines to a wider audience.
However, the number of business visitors stood at less than one-third that of the Hong Kong show and this remains an issue for future consideration.
Among the general public, approximately half of the visitors were 20 years of age or younger.
Visitors between 21 and 29 accounted for about 20%.
Most of the AM machines on display had already been exhibited at AM shows in Japan and marketed thereafter, but games meant to be played against an opponent player attracted great interest and other products also drew large crowds.
