JAMMA to Promote Greater Industry Unity

11th Ordinary General Meeting of JAMMA Chaired by Vice-President Kakihara

The Japan Amusement Machinery Association (JAMMA) held its 11th Ordinary General Meeting on May 18 (Tues.) in the Fujinoma of Atami Sekitei, Atami, Shizuoka prefecture, and visitors from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry attended the meeting.
Each year, Hayao Nakayama, President, gave an address to open the meeting, but this year, he was suddenly unable to attend for health reasons, and Yoshihito Kakihara, Vice-President, chaired the meeting. In his opening address, he made an appeal for greater unity to overcome the difficult circumstances that the entire industry now faces, "It is not easy to offer products and services to respond to latent needs. However, we have repeatedly experienced this sort of situation before as the industry undergoes a process of expansion. We would like JAMMA to function to promote greater unity in the overall amusement machine industry."

Proceedings then began with a business report on FY1998 and a statement of accounts, and the original proposals were unanimously approved by all in attendance. This was followed by a deliberation of the business plan for FY1999 and the budget. JAMMA explained that new items had been added to the business plan such as a survey of industry production trends, promotion of membership in the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC), research on a system to collect used amusement machines, holding the Amusement Tokyo International Summit, exchange with IAAPA, and deliberation on standards for machine that hinder sound development, etc., and this was approved unanimously by all in attendance.
