■The 39th AM Show Attracts 30,000 Visitors

The 39th AM (amusement machine) Show, the first in the 21st Century, was held for three days at Tokyo Big Sight from Sept. 20 to Sept. 22, 200l, assembling the latest models produced by Japan's AM industry which has the leading edge over the other counterparts in the world.

Under the theme of "Plays Enrich Our Minds," the Show was cosponsored by JAMMA (Japan Amusement Machine Manufacturers Association) and JAPEA (Japan Amusement Park Equipment Association) and supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Institute of Free Time Design and Nihon Keizai Shimbun lnc.

Reflecting the formidable conditions surrounding the AM industry, the scale of the Show shrank a little, with the number of exhibitor companies decreasing to 56 from last year's 80 and the number of booths slipping down to 945 from 1,088 in last year.

The Show, however, remained an event offering the best opportunities for business negotiations, with the visitors on two) business days numbering 2l,111, a little decline from last year. On the public day, the number of visitors decreased more than 20% from last year to 8,976, due mostly to the cold temperature that went down below 20 degrees C.

The floor layout of the Show was adopted to secure a smooth flow of visitors. Booths of large exhibitors were positioned at the two sides of the exhibition site in bilateral symmetry under the unprecedented type of layout, and the visitors were seen to go round all five exhibition zones of the Show.
