The 40th AM Show will be held for 3days, from September 19 (Thursday ) to September 21 (Saturday), 2002, at Tokyo Big Sight, Ariake, Tokyo, as in last year. Sponsors of the Show will be JAMMA and JAPEA (Jpan Amusement Park Equipment Association). The first and second days of the show will be the business days open only to the invited business people and the last day will be the public day open to the general public. In this show, 58 exibitor companies will display their products at 852 booths. With only one and a half months left before the opening of the Show, chairman Takashi Hayashi of the Show Organizing Committee made the following comment. |
| Return to Starting Point to Make the Show Valuable |
The number of display booths is smallre than in last year and the visitors to the Show are feared to decrease, making the conditions for our work very difficult indeed. The Show of this year, therefore, will be organized as a business show as originally designed and be devoted to the 'presentation of machines and prizes', without any specific attractions. We are determined to do our best to make the Show really valuable for the visitors. Recently, the advanced in information technology (IT) has been really rapid including the wider utilization of broadband technology. Under the circumstances, it is becoming all the more necessary for our game industry to advance into new fields, not stiching to the manufacture of stand-alone machines. New types of machines are expected to emerge, responding to such a trend. The style of the Show may remain unchanged but its contents are expected to change gradually. We hope that the exhibitor companies will display machines which represent the trend of the time. It is hoped that the two business days be valuable days for the visiting operators and the public day be an enjoyable day for the general public. By the way, the number of booths is certainly a little smaller then in last year, but the number of exhibitor companies in the arcade machine section has increased to 24 from the 20 in last year. |
| Lectures and Panel Discussions for Future Shows |
Events or attractions will not be held in the Show this year as it is designed as a business show as originally intended. This point has been stressed in the beginning of my comment, but a question still remains unanswered whether or not the Show in the current style can be really useful and valuable for the visitors. In order to make the Show really valuable, lecture meetings on technical problems and panel discussions on 'Games in the future.' participated mainly by developers of machines and techonologies, would be necessary for the shows in the future. Also the spans of the show site, which have been 3.0 so far, will be narrowed to 2.5 this time, in order not to give the sense of inactivity to the visitors. To say the least, there will be no waste in the AM Show this year. |
| Hanging Ad Posters To Be Deployed in JR Trains |
In order to give wide publicity to the Show, posters will be put up in the shops related to the industry with the assistance given by AOU (Amusement Machine Operators' Union). In addition, hanging advertising posters will be deployed in the trains of JR's Ymanote and Keihin-Tohoku Lines during the week of the Show. Posters will be put up also in the schools related to the development of game software and invitation cards be distributed to lure as many young people as possible. The last two days of the Show coincide with the term of the Tokyo Game Show. Though we have no intention to compete with the game show, we will do our best to publicize the AM Show as far as possible. |
| The Show Which Can Give Motivation For Tomorrow |
The AM Show is one of Japan's greatest exhibitions and visitors are expected to come from abroad as a matter of course. The role of the Show is very vital in indicating the future direction the amusement industry should follow and the industry's current situation. We believe that the exhibitor companies will display their very best products and we will do our best to make the Show an opportunity to get a hint or motivation for tomorrow for the operators and users. We hope as many people as possible will visit the Show. |
