The 41st Annual Amusement Machine Show, with the theme "Amusement :the cradle for a creative mind," was held from September 11th through 13th , 2003, in the East exhibition hall No. 4, 5 and 6 at Tokyo International Exhibition Center, also known as the "Tokyo Big Sight." Despite the slight drop in the number of exhibitor companies from 58 last year to 58 this year, the show attracted huge crowds thanks to the active efforts by the organizers, such as opening a theme zone for the sponsors and promoting the show to businesses related to the computer game industry. The show welcomed 1,800 more business people and amusement machine operators than last year, and the number of visitors over the three days totaled 31,668, up from 31,094 the previous year. The show received 23,074 visitors on the first 2 days targeting businesses and operators, and 8,594 visitors on the final day, on which it was open to the general public. The figures a year earlier were 21,336 and 9,758 respectively. While the show this year was more focused on its original purpose, which was to emphasize the business aspect of the event, an extensive advertising campaign succeeded in drawing in many families with children on the "general-public day." The AM show was organized by Japan Amusement Machinery Manufacturers Association (JAMMA) and Japan Amusement Park Equipment Association (JAPEA), and was sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation, and Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc. |
