A New Year Message: For a Successful Venture in the Development of the New Leisure & Entertainment Activities

|

I wish you a very Happy New Year. I am pleased that in 2003, the amusement industry finally begun to see some encouraging signs in terms of the improvement made in the arcade operation, and, although slightly, the sales of amusement machinery have also turned the corner. We shall look back on 2003 as the year of the beginning of our successful venture in the development of the new leisure and entertainment activities.

In the coming year, our organization will strive to assist our members in every way that we can in order to build on and strengthen the progress made thus far in our industry.

One of our challenges this year would be to grow out of the traditional way of doing business, the coin operation. A systematic and orderly introduction of the electronic money technology will enable us not only to streamline sales management and cut labor costs, we are hopeful that it will help us overcome many of our long term challenges altogether, such as the launching of a more fluid pricing system and the problems we have faced in handling the consumption tax.

Furthermore, we will work even harder in 2004 to ensure that our industry engages in the appropriate form of sales promotion using free gifts, a practice that has become increasingly widespread in the recent years. Other items on our agenda this year include organizing a machinery database, tackling the recycling issue, and reevaluating the exhibitions. We are committed to making contribution to the further development of our industry through carrying out these and other projects in a timely manner.

In closing, I thank you for your continued support, and I wish all of you a happy and prosperous New Year.
